Dan & Laura Dotson who owns American Auctioneers wanted to share aucion action on youtube, created videos to upload to their channel. 📹
Dan & Laura's Youtube 'Modern Day Treasure Hunt' highlighted auction goers finding small treasures at auction while taking a good profit. CBS, ABC and KCET aired a thrift economy story about how some out of work people were paying their bills through buying storage units and re selling the merchandise.
On October 14, 2009 Laura pitched the Storage Wars Idea to David at The History Channel.
In the early 2010 Dan & Laura met with Thom Beers from A&E and went over details such as who would be cast on the show.
After about 2 years of videos on youtube, talking with several networks and meetings the idea of an auction reality show becomes real. Contracts are signed, cast has been selected and everyone waits for the first filming date & location.
